Fernando is an independent Smart Grid Consultant. Most recently he worked for New York Power Authority (NYPA) in the Technology and Innovation Group. He was involved with the conceptual design and implementation of Smart Grid strategic initiatives.

Fernando professional experience includes: Grid Management and Operation, Grid Control and Automation, Energy Management Systems and Smart Grid implementation, IT/OT integration, FERC Open Access Transmission Tariff (OATT), NERC Standards Compliance, Project Business Evaluation, and Project Management. He held technical and management positions at Florida Power and Light, ISO New England, Schlumberger, Manitoba Hydro International and Mid America Interconnected Network Inc.

Mr. Saavedra is a Registered Professional Engineer, a Certified Project Management Professional, and a Senior Member of the IEEE. He holds Master of Business Administration and Master of Electric Power Engineering degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Master of Electrical Engineering from the City College of New York, Electric Power Distribution Systems Diploma from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and completed one-year Executive Education Program at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management of Northwestern University.
