David Murray was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Hydro-Québec and President of Hydro-Québec Production in April 2018. In this capacity, he coordinates the operational activities and company-wide functions that require a global vision, such as continuous improvement, occupational health and safety, environmental management, and the operation and evolution of information and communication technologies. He also manages the subsidiaries involved in the commercialization of Hydro-Québec’s innovations and oversees all power generation activities, including facility operations and maintenance, as well as electricity sales and energy trading on wholesale markets.
Mr. Murray joined Hydro-Québec in 2015 as Vice President – Information and Communications Technologies. The following year, he was appointed President of Hydro-Québec Distribution. In this capacity, he was responsible for supplying electricity to the Québec market, operating the distribution system and providing customer services.
Mr. Murray has over 20 years’ experience in large corporations. Before joining Hydro-Québec, he held a number of strategic management positions at Bombardier Aéronautique, where he contributed to the launch of Bombardier Avions d’affaires and served as Vice President and General Manager responsible for the Learjet 70/75 programs and the Learjet plant in Wichita, Kansas. An executive member of the Aeronautical Industries Association of America and representative of the General Aviation Manufacturing Association, he also oversaw Bombardier’s relations with Kansas government authorities. Previously, he worked for Flextronics, Nortel Networks and Rolls Royce.
A dynamic and inspiring leader, he has played a pivotal role in bringing about organizational changes through the implementation of enterprise resource planning systems and other technological tools designed to increase efficiency and productivity.
Mr. Murray earned a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from HEC Montréal in 1992. He is a governor of the Mouvement québécois de la qualité and sits on the boards of Centraide du Grand Montréal and the Institut du cancer de Montréal.
